Swedish Diesels - The third generation

GC Td 0355
One good spot to catch Td.s is Borlänge where a flock of rebuilt have taken over the duties completely from their unrebuilt sisters. The yard is vast and beside TD.s there are a number smaller V5-class engines and RC1.s which does all the heavy hump and transfer duties. Borlänge 2012-04-09.

GC Td 0357
There is also a shop located in Borlänge for servicing their engines, though the major work is done in main shops in Örebro. Here TD357 is seeing some attention, note the very weathered trucks on this unit. Borlänge 2012-04-09.

GC Td 0382
Td engines has taken over all the transfer and switching duties in Mora. They soud very much different compared they used to before the rebuilt. The depp base humming of a two stroke EMD 645.s has given away to a very quiet sound from a four stroke. Now adays they sound more like a sewing machines than a big diesel. Also there have been some changes, some are more obvious like the relocation of the stack on the long hood and new set of head lights. Some takes a while and some reference photos to figure our. They have been painted in the new version of GC green like the rebuilt Rd.s and the new Re.s and at least one unrebuilt Rc-unit. Strange enough there were not budget enough to repaint the trucks which gives the units a bit odd and unfinished look. Mora 2011-10-19.

GC Td 0389
A TD unit still looking like new is having a break at the yard office at Borlänge. It makes a stark contrast to the battle worn RC1 1022 sitting on the tracks nearby. It is rather hard to believe that the both units once was made of what was state of art technology in th elate 1960.s. Still the former T44 389 is one of the lucky ones to be rebuilt. Borlänge 2011-12-03.

GC Td 0395
The TD invasion has made Borlänge out of the unrebuilt T44.s and their mix of colors has become uniform green paint. Allthough a number of T44.s were painted in a early version of GC green, none as I have observed never made it to th Dalecarlia county. Still there were odd balls like the first blue panite diesel, the T44 337, which was the last of the T44.s assigned to Dalecarlia. Right at the very same spot sits now a Td 395 waiting for some kind of attention from the shop crew. Borlänge 2011-12-03.

GC Td 0401
A Td unit, Td 0401 is idleing at the yard at Mora and I guess the next job it is facing is to run a local to the sawmill at Brunsberg on the Älvdalen line. The alternative is to push the cars a few hundred yards to the sawmill at Mora-Noret, which is operated by the same company as the sawmill at Brunnsberg. The load of four empies will not strain the freshly rebuilt engine, perhaps runniong back "home" will be tougher though as it is mostly a an easy route, yet a bit like a roller coaster. iti s a bit of a shame that the very scenic branch does not see passanger runs or even excursions.

GC Td 0401
The Green Cargo Td 401 is being busy in Mora area during November 2011. The unit may be renewed, but the work is the same. Here it is having a break as the IC-express is holding the house track. I am not sure if the yard switching not allowed while a passanger train loads or unloads passangers but after the passanger train had gone, not to soon after, it was time for the diesel to shove those wood chip container cars for loading to the Siljanssågens sawmill east of the town.

GC Td 0402
Td 0402 is having a little break after delivering a cut of log cars to the yard in Mora, which were headed south with a lash up of typcal pair of Green Cargos Rc.s. Though the engine is rebuilt, the work is the same which includes switching on the huge saw mill south east of the town, switchin of freight cars in the yard, tranfer and switching of timber cars on the terminal west of the town including some industrial switching and being the power on the work days only run on the branch line to Brunnsberg where another huge saw mill is located. The line ran previously to Älvdalen, but is terminated a couple kilometer south of the town and the old yard is now used as a bus terminal. Mora 2011-10-04.

GC Td 0405
Looking like a bit like being arranged by the PR-departement of Green Cargo with two of the three newest classes unit parked side by side. The engine terminal of Borlänge houses both the entire class of ther new german built Re-class engines which are used on steel unit trains between Luleå and the port of Oxelösund and all the switching units used in Dalecarlia like this fresh from the rebuilding Td 0405. Borlänge 2011-03-04.

GC Td 0405
Appearently a lunch break among the yard crews in Borlänges vast freight yards. The town is important junction between north and south and gives an interesting view on the differences on trains between the bot regions. Interesting enough TD.s does have some detail differences among them. Borlänge 2012-04-09.

GC Td 0406
Idling in the rays of sun of the one of the first warm days in spring of 2012. It is allmost Easter, just a day away and the crew has a lunch break and the Td 0406 is left idleing near by. Still their sound do remind more of an sew mchine compared the deep bass rumble they had before the rebuilt. Borlänge 2012-04-09.

GC Td 0407
Allmost straight from the shop and to work, that is what the life is for an aging diesel is all about. With shibing new paint I guess it is pretty nice to the crew go to work though the routine is still the same. But after the mid day combined timber and general freight (mostly made of milled lumber now a days) has left the yard, the paice gets more relaxed. Mora 2010-09-07.

GC Td 0407
While other units are working theo thers are having time off. One of the lucky ones for the day is TD 0407 at the engine terminal at Borlänge. Borlänge 2012-04-09.

GC Td 0410
I missed a train passing along the southwestern part of the Borlänge yards. As I did see headlights facing my direction I waited a while but the unit with its consist of timber cars was not moving. Luckily it was parked to the track closest to the pararelling street, right by a small parking lot.

GC Td 0406-Td 0414
Two TD.s parked for a lunch break at the yard office. Borlänge 2012-04-05.

GC Td 0415
I guess there is a lunch break going on as the mid day activity of running a transfer run to the timber west of Mora is over of the day and the empties deliverd to the same spot and once the loaded cars were switched to the waiting electrics it is sitting idle on the platform track as a easy access for the switching crew. Still I am supriced by the sound of the rebuilt engines as it sounds more like a sewing machine compared for the heavy bass sound as it sounded when she was a T44 unit with EMD engine in it.
Mora 2011-12-02.

Railcare 68 901-8
A suprice visit by this heavy diesel which was switching som various timber cars on the vacated yard in Orsa. The quiet yard is filled now with cars which as stored untill the traffic picks up again. The Vossloh built 68 class diesel must be the heaviest engine ever visited Orsa.
Orsa 2011-10-15

Railcare 68 901-8
The impressive looking Railcare T68 unit is storming in to the yard of Mora in the late afternoon. Moast likely it has been a late runner with its interesting mix of heavily loaded log cars of various origins and types ranging from 60 foot 4-axle cars equipped with stakes, two unit cars which most likely have before been hauling coils to usual 2 axle coversions of former all door box cars. Most likely after the passanger run, with the black SJ Rc6 1369 on the lead is leaving the unit was turned and was ready to leave the busy yard in Mora.

Usually there is an electric waiting to haul the private operated log train to the south but today the usual Ma-class veteran or a leased top modern Traxx engine was not parked in the yard. But the powerful diesel has enough muscle to haul the train to Borlänge

BV MaK 1206
MAK 1206 are perhaps the first European standard design of road switcher and a few have found their way to Sweden. Here is one of them owned by BV with a concrete tie replacement train arriving to Mora 26th September 2004.

BV MaK
BV does not entirely rely on older SJ engines entirely, they went for MaK and ordered 6 of the MAk cathalogue. These MaK designed hood units are become the standard switcher units in Europe as they serve on SBB freight division as well by various private operators in Europe.

BV MaK
The MaK.s of BV are pretty uncommon sight in Dalecarlia, but during the minimal traffic during the general industrial holidays BV is maintaining the Siljan line (Borlänge -Mora) and this unit has the job of hauling concrete tie replacement train.

BV MaK BVD ll0907D
The Banverkets MaK.s are seen about nationwide hauling just everything as long it is MoW service. Just like here in early morning shot in Mora 6. September 2004.

BV MaK DLL0912d
Even modern units need attention as it appears, so here is one of the Banverkets (BV) modern MAKs are seen at the shops in Örebro in 13th of April 2007.

BV DLL 33 290 & SRS 240
A short grind train with BV DLL33 290 and a tiny grinder devise is parked in the yard of Mora. There seem to be a little trouble with the car as the crew had busy time to do something with the little car. Mora 2007-05-12.
