Part three, JTJ revisited

ÅJ 2 "Korsån"
The first engine of the JTJ is this small 0-6-2T constructed by Machine shops of Falun in 1902. Originally it was a 0-6-0T but some time in its active days rebuilt in to current wheel configuration. The line te engine orignally ran on was an interesting system of transportation as it used partly railroad and barges over a pair of lakes. which was connected by horse powered line. The northen pat was using steam engines and connected to Wintjern at DONJ in north. Maybe it was not un common see this engine get charcoal cars from Rysjön some 6 kilometers further on DONJ.

BLJ 8/JTj4
"Sigbjörn"
In many ways this engine, built in 1901 by Motala verkstad was very typical Swedish narrow gauge power. In early years it ran around south western Sweden on Ulricehamn Railway which was sold off to another private line VCj and stadard gauged the line. In 1907 the engine was sold off to another road and handed over to another road before it was sold to Byvalla-Långshyttan Line where it was used as a swithcher at the plant at Långshyttan. After the was shut down the engine was till used as a switcher at the plant. In the 1971 the engine was sold to JTJ and renovated to current state andas JTJ had DONJ 8 it was given its original road number on UJ, No.4.

DONJ 8
The Swedish railroad net was in the beginning rich on various privately owned lines from 600 mm gauge to the standard gauge. One of the most interesting was a ore hauler that turned in to a loghaler, sneaking its way from the forrested eatern foothills of Dalecarlia to the giant paermill on the east coast. One of the nost intetersitng feature on the line were the three 0-6-6-0 Mallets #1, 8 and 12, they are by far the largest articulated steamers in the country and the two of them are running to day on a 5 kilometer long protion of their former mainline around the operation hub of Jädraås.

The crew on the preserved line were very friendly, they figured out that this guy wanted to take a few shots on this unique steamer, they took a diesel and pulled out the engine to the turntable........

DONJ 12
The DONJ 12, the sister engine to the No.8. has hauled another trainload of railfans and tourists and is about to take the train 1.5 km.s further to the end of the line at Svartbäcken Nedre in August 2001. The lines main hub at Jädraås is pretty complete with all the buildings to keep the rather long loggingline running, and a well worth a visit for any railfan....

BLJ 5
Though this engine does not run on JTJ it is interesting as its three sisters served the DONJ for decades.
The Falun made 891 gauge 2-8-0 BLJ 5 Thor is the sole survior of the class that were sold to several railroad. Besides the mallets shown above DONJ these Consolidations were the backbone in log hauling untill the diesels came to DONJ and the last of them were scrapped in early 1960.es. The vast narrow gauge net north of Stockholm picked one engine, which very close to Thor, except it rode with a three axled tender. The Thor and its DONJ sisters made it with 2-axled tender.

BLJ, was an interesting line where handbrakes were used to the end of operation in the 1960.es. Thor shared the road duties with #6, which was a standard 2-8-0T from Motala which is preserved in Anten-Gräfsnes Preserved Line in south west. The road had also a number of smaller steam power and most of them are still around on preserved 891mm gauge lines in the country, aswell a fair amount of rolling stock. The Thor operates on the longest narrow gauge museum, 27 km.s long Uppsala-Lenna Järnväg.

NKlJ 2
This colored small diesel are among the last standard type of power on the narrow gauge lines in Sweden. The earlier engines had more boxier bodies but these were rounded up in the last production runs. The NKLJ desided that the small diesels of SJ design were just right enough to add one of them in the roster. This unit usually is powering MoW runs but this hot dry day it is put on excursion run instead a steamer to prevent forrest fires along the line. The NKlJ paint fits well on this unit.

JTJ Speedster.
A small speedsters like this were very common in Sweden and in Norway. This HC-built is used I guess as a fire patrolling unit in the dry summer days like this.

Åj Korså car.
On Åg Railway (ÅJ), there was a three kilometer section of a rail road between two lakes whcich was powered by horses. The line did have one small passanger power and the car was able to handle 10 passangers. The car is very tiny looking a very much like a toy. JTJ has infact another slightly larger car but with just one enterance, which is also from ÅJ. That car is called Kungavagnen (Kings car) as one of the former kings of Sweden used it in hunting trips.

JTJ summer car.
JTJ constructed on a old DONJ undeer carriage a small open excursion car go along both of ÅJ cars and add a few more seatings. These cars usually runs behind ÅJ 2, Korsån..

JTJ 74.

SRJ 50.
The most modern passanger cars are the two ex SRJ cars that was used in suburban traffic in northern areas of Stockholm. During the 1930.s-1940.s the cars received the built in vestibules. On Jtj the cars have been given new interiours and used on special excursions as diners and parlor cars.

Rounding up a few photos of the interesting varaiation of freight cars on the line.
